    Juvenile justice reform project II

    The Juvenile Justice Reform Project Phase II funded by USAID/OECS dealt specifically with youth in conflict with the law and the provision of diversion, rehabilitation and reintegration mechanisms for these youth in the six (6) OECS independent Member States.

    The objective of the assignment was to create a possible additional viable and sustainable productivity platform for self-employment in the area of craftsmanship as a manifestation of rehabilitation efforts post their period of incarceration.

    Twelve (12) inmates applied and were accepted to participate in the short duration program from April 1, 2021 to June 11, 2021

    KALINAGO (ENGENDER PROJECT)

     Sponsored by the OECS/USAID   – June, 2022

    The objective of the project was to provide an introduction to woodworking skills that would be instrumental in the formulation of designs, selection, and preparation of appropriate souvenir woodcraft products, and an appreciation of the use of the scroll saw and associated tools for the creation of market ready quality craft items with emphasis on the incorporation of Kalinago design concepts where possible.

    A total of twelve (12) participants were selected for the program from the 8 hamlets of the territory i.e Bataka, Crayfish River, Salybia, St.Cyr, Gaulette River, Mahaut River, Sineku, Concord. Subsequent to graduation, it was envisioned that the craftsmen / women  would collaborate to form a multi-purpose cooperative utilizing their inherent and cultivated skills for individual and collective benefits. 

    The instructors were Mr. Francis (Major) Richards and Mr. Albert Casimir, with assistance from liaison facilitators Mr. Donaldson Frederick and Mrs. Alice Dalrymple.
